BEHIND THE SCENES
Meet the Team
Collaborating with Amy in the Dressing Up Our Dreams project made me connect with people whose life experiences inspired me to tell more of their stories through my photography. There's a world of magical memories, history lived, stories untold, and experiences unshared. As a creative photographer, I regularly look and search for images and elements that can inspire my next photo shoot, but after meeting the wonderful people involved in this project I realized that instead of looking I should also listen.
Listening to the participant's dreams, we heard their challenges and victories, we absorbed their successes and failures, and we celebrated their remarkable achievements. What a privilege I was given to be able to capture in portraiture their history, their persona, their past and their present. What a humbling experience to find myself in the company of Pioneers. As I keep marching in my own path, I am now more committed to dress up people's dreams in my portraiture. I hope I serve them well.
My name is Jaclyn Smith, and I’m a native of North Carolina living in Rome, Georgia for the last 8 years. I fell in love with the beauty industry in college but did not pursue it until moving to Rome. I worked for Stella Blu Cosmetics for 5 years and for the last 2 years, I’ve been a freelance artist. I specialize in all events, including weddings, prom, homecoming, and special events such as the project I did with the Spires community.
I absolutely loved this project I was a part of! I found the wisdom from the participants to be so intriguing and enlightening. It was also refreshing to see at any age you can have expectations from what you thought you would become to what you actually end up doing. I believe we get on the paths we are on for a reason. I related to it so much because I have a bachelor's in psychology from Lee University and switched to being a character performer for the Walt Disney Company not long after graduating. I thought I would work for Disney for a while before I decided to do anything else. It wasn't until my husband moved us to Rome that my career shifted to what it is today. It just goes to show you that anything is possible!
